FESTIVE GARLANDS DEMONSTRATION

BY AMANDA WYATT

What a lovely way to end a most fruitful year at The Garden Club, with Amanda giving us a very informative and 'hands-on' demonstration and imparting some invaluable tips on how to achieve an impressive Christmas Garland.  These Garlands can just as easily be adapted for other uses, such as adorning door-ways, arches (both inside and out) or even around wall mirrors, perhaps for party celebrations, simply by the inclusion of flowers.

We were shown how to gradually build-up the garland and the importance of trying to use as much of the material as possible, primarily with judicial cutting.  Amanda also recommended making the garland in one piece as she said trying to join two lengths together in the middle substantially reduced the strength of the Garland.
It was also pointed out that the type of wired used to tie in the stems/stalks was very important and Amanda brought along some reels of almost invisible cotton-thin wire which, she told us was easily available to purchase on-line.

The evening was complemented with beautiful
home-made nibbles, a complementary glass of Fizz or a glass of red or white wine.

We were also delighted to welcome a visitor all the way from Romsey who joined the Garden
Club on the spot, what better recommendation can there be than that.  A total of 5 new members
joined on the evening.  You are all most welcome.
